Observation Notes - 10/01/13
Freshman World History
room set up - 2 sections on side of room that face each other, three rows each
makes good use of space - walks around middle open space
"want to go back to unit notes part I - want to make sure theres something we're clear about"
lesson: paleolithic and neolithic review from yesterday - hunter gatherers or farmer?
"what would YOU be? WHY?"
Teacher has lots of energy! talks a little fast...
"what are YOU today? farmer? or hunter-gatherer? By a show of hands, who is a farmer? hunter-gatherer?"
Good student response (hand raising)
"If you think about it, hunting-gathering still a big part of our lives today!"
interesting to see my students in other classes!
E - just as talkative
H - quiet, doesn't answer a lot in class
J - answers a lot in class
G - quiet
A - quiet; friends he sits near in our class are not in this class...
Teacher talks a lot - students have to pay close attention (even I need to stay intently focused)
gets student involved
Hands out list of animals that farmers in neolithic age used
"What do all of these animals have in common? Lets see if you can figure this out!"
Takes some student answers
"Think about the cast of Jersey Shore, of any reality show, or look here at todays metro - Miley Cyrus"
"what do they all have in common?" student answers: "twerking!" haha - everyone (including teacher) laughs!
"they do nasty stuff on camera!" - students giggle
"the animals - and miley cyrus and the cast of jersey shore - they do it with you watching! breeding in captivity! Most animals don't do it in front of you! And I'm hoping most of you are the same way! Most animals don't breed in captivity! That's what I'm getting at"
"if you need to use your notes to give you an idea, check them; see how good the notes are that you took yesterday"
Game to end class!
card dealer gets folder - give out papers in folder to each group member - you will have 5 minutes to read the directions that you receive - card dealer will collect the rules, give teacher back the folder - you will have 5 minutes to complete the game, WITHOUT TALKING
"I'm not going to talk over people if we're going to do this game"
"you know to ignore the bell when you're in my room" - not fair…
discipline - kicked one boy out of a group for not following directions
let him back in during the next turn (it was a warning)
I'm not sure why they're doing the game…no preface...
everyone had different rules!
please clean up (put cards back together) - let me explain what happened
original group - everyone had same rules
once people moved to next group - other groups had different rules!
"no one leaves until room it's clean, chairs back in organized rows and floor is cleaned up"
